Home / Is The Golf Swing Centrifugal or Centripetal?
 |
By Rick Bradshaw
The most efficient way to swing a golf club is by maintaining a centripetal center resulting in an outer centrifugal velocity. Years ago, I looked up the words centrifugal force in a physics book and I could not find the phrase. I did find the word centrifugal, but with words like result, tendency or velocity after it, but not force. The eye of of a hurricane is a centripetal force creating the winds of centripetal velocity. The more defined the center or eye, the greater velocity of the outer winds. The golf swing's power source originates from a well-defined center body rotation into, and controlled by, a braced right leg and foot anchored on the ground by spikes. Centripetal force in definition is "the force that holds an object in a circular motion." A compact controlled center of your golf swing will keep your club head on a constant swing arc with greater velocity with minimal effort. This centripetal force is gathered through a stretching of the claves, thighs, gluteus, oblique and stomach muscles as your body torques and turns loading up of potential energy. This is only achieved by a stable base of support with good spikes and shoes with laces tied up tight. Here's an outline on loading the power:
- Flex both knees slightly at the address (set up position)
- Keep weight slightly on the inside of shoes.
- Rotate your chest and center maintaining the right knee flex you started with at address (at setup) until you've turned you upper body complete. (Note: Your hips to turn slightly. The resistance in your right foot and knee will limit your hip turn as your upper body winds up into a pivotal, coiled position ready to release like a rattlesnake ready to strike.)
